Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine the active sourdough starter, dark brown sugar, warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Mix until well combined.
- Gradually add in the bread flour and salt, kneading until a soft dough forms. Let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread the softened butter for the filling over the dough, then sprinkle the dark brown sugar and cinnamon evenly on top.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and cut into equal pieces. Place rolls in a greased baking dish.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter for the topping along with the dark brown sugar, honey, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir until smooth, then pour over the rolls before baking.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Allow the rolls to rise for another 30 minutes, then bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Drizzle any extra caramel topping over the rolls and sprinkle with chopped pecans.
Notes
Make sure your sourdough starter is active for best results. You can prepare the dough the night before and let it rise in the fridge for a slow fermentation process.
