Description
These Spooky Witches’ Fingers are a fun and festive dessert for Halloween, featuring buttery cookies shaped like fingers and adorned with almond nails and a bloody touch of red gel.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup butter
- softened
- 1 cup confectioners’ sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup whole almonds
- 1 (.75-ounce) tube red decorating food gel or seedless strawberry jam
- or as needed
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and confectioners’ sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, almond extract, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt, then gradually mix into the butter mixture until just combined.
- Shape the dough into finger shapes and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Press an almond into the tip of each finger to form the nail.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-30 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned.
- Allow to cool slightly before transferring to a wire rack. Once cooled, use the red decorating gel or jam to add a spooky touch around the almond nails.
Notes
For an extra eerie effect, consider using a bit more gel for a dripping effect. These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
