Description

These Super Easy Doughnuts are quick to make and deliciously crispy, perfect for a sweet treat any time of the day.


Ingredients

  • ⅜ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 quart oil for deep frying
  • ½ cup confectioners’ sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine milk and vinegar. Let sit for 5 minutes to create sour milk.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the sugar and shortening until smooth.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture and continue to beat until well combined.
  4. Mix in the sour milk.
  5. In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a dough forms.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about ½ inch thick and cut out doughnuts.
  8. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C) and carefully fry the doughnuts until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  9. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  10. Dust with confectioners’ sugar before serving.

Notes

Ensure the oil is at the right temperature for best results. You can also add cinnamon to the sugar for extra flavor.
