Description

Tater Tot Casserole is an easy, comforting family dinner made with seasoned ground beef, creamy mushroom soup, melted Cheddar cheese, and crispy golden tater tots. It comes together quickly in one baking dish and is perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • Salt, to taste
  • Ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 (16-ounce) package frozen tater tots
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat for 7–10 minutes, breaking it apart as it browns. Drain excess fat.
  3. Season the beef with salt and black pepper.
  4. Stir in the condensed cream of mushroom soup until the beef is evenly coated.
  5. Spread the beef mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  6. Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single, even layer over the beef mixture.
  7. Sprinkle the shredded Cheddar cheese evenly over the tater tots.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden and crispy and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Ground turkey can be substituted for ground beef.
  • Add sautéed onions, garlic, spinach, or bell peppers for extra flavor and vegetables.
  • For a spicy version, add jalapeños or hot sauce.
  • Try different cheeses or sweet potato tots for variations.
  • For make-ahead preparation, assemble, cover, and refrigerate for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3–5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • For best reheating results, thaw frozen portions overnight and bake at 350°F until heated through.
