Description
This easy homemade Beef Bulgogi recipe brings the delightful flavor of Korean BBQ right to your kitchen, featuring tender beef marinated with sesame and scallions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound (450g) beef (ribeye or sirloin)
- thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup (60ml) soy sauce (naturally brewed)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
- 3 cloves garlic
- minced
- 1/4 cup (60g) grated Asian pear or apple
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3–4 scallions
- thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
- Optional: 1 teaspoon grated ginger
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, brown sugar, toasted sesame oil, minced garlic, grated Asian pear or apple, rice vinegar, ground black pepper, and optional ginger. Mix well to create the marinade.
- Add the thinly sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring it’s fully coated. Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes (up to 2 hours for more flavor).
- Heat a grill pan or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in batches, cooking until browned and cooked through, about 3-5 minutes per side.
- Once cooked, remove the beef from the heat and stir in sliced scallions and toasted sesame seeds.
- Serve immediately with rice or lettuce leaves for wrapping.
Notes
For best flavor, marinate the beef for longer if time allows. Adjust sweet and savory notes by modifying the sugar and soy sauce proportions.
