Description

This Thai Sweet Chili Sauce Recipe combines a perfect balance of sweetness and heat, making it a versatile condiment for a variety of dishes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 and ½ tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 and ¼ cups water (divided)
  • ½ cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons sambal oelek
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix ½ cup of water with cornstarch until dissolved and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the remaining water, sugar, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, rice vinegar, salt, ketchup, sambal oelek, and fish sauce. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and stir in the cornstarch mixture. Keep stirring until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and allow to cool before transferring to a bottle or container for storage.

Notes

For a milder sauce, reduce the amount of red pepper flakes and sambal oelek. This sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
