Description
This Easy Fish Chowder Recipe is a creamy and hearty dish perfect for seafood lovers, combining delicious fish with tender potatoes and a flavorful broth.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 pounds meaty firm fish or white fish (cut into 1-inch cubes)
- 2 pounds potatoes (such as Yukon or red potatoes) cut into ¾-inch cubes
- 3 thick bacon slices
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cups diced onion
- ¾ cup small diced celery
- ½ cup dry white wine
- 1 bay leaf
- 6 small thyme sprigs
- 24 oz clam juice
- 2 cups chicken broth (low-sodium or regular according to your liking)
- 2½ teaspoons Old Bay seasoning (I used OLD BAY® Seafood Seasoning by McCormick)
- 2 cups heavy cream (preheat in the microwave) – add more according to your liking
- black pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- In a large pot, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and crumble the bacon, leaving the fat in the pot.
- Add butter, onion, and celery to the pot, sautéing until the vegetables are soft.
- Pour in the white wine, bay leaf, and thyme, cooking until the wine has reduced.
- Stir in the clam juice, chicken broth, Old Bay seasoning, and potatoes. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer until potatoes are tender.
- Add the fish and cook until the fish is opaque and cooked through.
- Stir in the heavy cream, season with black pepper to taste, and heat through.
- Serve hot, garnished with crumbled bacon if desired.
Notes
Feel free to adjust the amount of cream for desired richness, and substitute fish based on availability.
