- 1 pound ground beef

- 2 cloves minced garlic
- 1 ⅓ tablespoons flour
- 2 tablespoons vodka (Optional)
- 2 ½ cups beef broth

- 1 cup water
- 2 ½ cups egg noodles
- ½ cup sour cream
- plus more for serving
- 2 tablespoons fresh sliced chives or green onions
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt the butter and vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the mushrooms, sprinkle with salt, and cook until browned and tender, about 5 minutes.
- Add the diced onion and ground beef to the skillet. Cook until the beef is browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 7-10 minutes. Season with freshly ground black pepper and cayenne pepper.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant. Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir to combine.
- If using, add the vodka and let it cook for 1-2 minutes to reduce slightly. Then, gradually stir in the beef broth and water, bringing the mixture to a simmer.
- Add the egg noodles and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, or until tender.
- Once the noodles are cooked, remove the skillet from heat and stir in the sour cream until well combined. Adjust seasoning with more salt and pepper as needed.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh chives or green onions and an extra dollop of sour cream if desired.
Notes
For a tangier flavor, try adding a splash of Worcestershire sauce to the beef mixture. This dish pairs well with a side salad or steamed vegetables.
