Ingredients
Scale
- 8 grams active dry yeast
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 cup sugar
- zest of one orange
- 5 eggs
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1½ cups russet potato
- 1000 grams flour
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- In a small bowl, dissolve the active dry yeast in lukewarm milk with 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a larger bowl, combine the eggs, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, riced potatoes, and yeast mixture. Mix well.
- In a separate bowl, mix the flour, and gradually add it to the wet ingredients until a dough begins to form.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and braid it into your desired shape. Place on a greased baking sheet.
- Prepare the egg wash by blending the beaten egg with 1 tablespoon of milk and brush it over the dough. Sprinkle with orange sugar.
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool before serving.
Notes
Ensure the milk is lukewarm to properly activate the yeast. You can customize the bread by adding colorful eggs for decoration.
