Description

Indulge in this Delightful Japanese Sweet Potato Crème Brûlée Tart, a fusion of creamy custard and flaky crust that highlights the unique flavors of Japanese sweet potatoes.

Ingredients

  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Japanese Sweet Potatoes
  • Heavy Cream
  • Egg Yolks
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Ground Ginger
  • Lime Zest
  • Granulated Sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and powdered sugar. Cut in the cold, cubed unsalted butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press the dough into a tart pan, ensuring an even layer across the bottom and up the sides. Prick the bottom with a fork to prevent bubbling.
  4. Bake the crust for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove and let cool.
  5. In a separate bowl, mash the cooked Japanese sweet potatoes until smooth. Set aside.
  6. In a saucepan, heat heavy cream until just simmering. In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks, vanilla extract, ground ginger, and lime zest.
  7. Gradually whisk hot cream into the egg mixture, then stir in the mashed sweet potatoes until combined.
  8. Pour the sweet potato filling into the cooled tart crust and smooth the top.
  9. Bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until the filling is set but slightly wobbly in the center.
  10. Allow to cool completely, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
  11. Before serving, sprinkle granulated sugar evenly over the top and use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until golden brown.
  12. Slice and serve your delightful tart!

Notes

For a gluten-free tart, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend. Use fresh ingredients for the best flavor.
